Family and Kids Fishing Charters in St Petersburg and Tampa Bay

Hey folks, I'm Captain Matt Hilliard, sixth generation fisherman running Daybreaker Inshore Charters right here in St. Petersburg, Florida. Been chasing these tides my whole life, just like my dad and granddad before me. Nothing beats seeing a kid's face light up when they hook their first fish. That's why I put together these family and kids fishing charters. They are built for real memories, not just another trip.

Down here in Tampa Bay, the water stays pretty calm most days, especially when we stick to the protected grass flats and mangroves. Think spots like the shallows off Fort De Soto, the edges near Weedon Island, or the channels around Boca Ciega Bay. These areas are perfect for little ones. Short runs from the ramp mean more time actually fishing instead of bouncing around in the boat.

I hate watching parents drag tired kids on long, rough trips that turn into a headache. Not on my boat. We keep things light and fun. I bring kid sized rods and reels, plenty of snacks if you forget, and I adjust everything to the group. Got a mix of ages? No problem. We start with easy action like Spanish mackerel or ladyfish that hit hard and fight just enough to get everyone excited without wearing them out.

Parents tell me all the time how their boys and girls talk about that redfish they pulled up near the Skyway for weeks after. Or the trout they caught on the grass when the water cools a bit. We target what is biting that day. Slot reds, speckled trout, snook around the structure, even some jacks that give a good pull. Everything is catch and release unless you want dinner. I clean what you keep right there at the ramp.

Safety comes first, always. USCG licensed and fully insured. I keep extra life jackets on board that fit the smaller crew. My 22 foot boat gives us room to move but stays easy to handle. No overcrowding here. I watch the weather close. Summer squalls can pop up fast, but I know the signs and where to tuck in if needed.

These trips work great for families visiting from Clearwater, Largo, Pinellas Park, or even over from Tampa. Locals too. Whether it is a birthday, summer break, or just a weekend outing, I have watched this play out hundreds of times. The kids learn a little about the tides and the bait. The parents get to relax and make pictures that last. And everybody goes home tired in the best way possible.

I get frustrated sometimes with how some outfits rush folks or treat kids like an afterthought. That is not how we do it. This is my family legacy. I fish these same bays I grew up on, and I want the next generation to love them too. That means patient teaching, honest advice, and making sure everyone has a blast.

Ready to get your family out on the water? Give me a call or book direct. We will pick a time that works with your schedule, talk about what you are hoping to catch, and I will get you taken care of. Private charters only, so it stays all about your crew.

Come fish with a captain who actually knows these waters. St Petersburg family fishing charters, Tampa Bay kids inshore trips, beginner friendly bay fishing. whatever you call it, I have got you. Let's make some stories worth telling.
