How Do I Book a Last-Minute Fishing Charter?

Folks call me all the time from St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Gulfport, and over by the Skyway asking if I can get them on the water tomorrow. Sometimes today. I get it. Vacation plans fall apart. Weather finally lays down. You just want to fish.

Here's the honest answer. Daybreaker is one 22-foot boat and one captain. Me. I don't run a fleet. I don't have a desk full of mates shuffling people around. So last-minute openings happen, but they are not guaranteed. When a morning trip cancels because somebody's kid got sick, or a squall chewed up yesterday's window, I can sometimes slide you in. That is how it works down here.

Best way? Call me. 727-434-0383. Text works too if I am already on the water. Email captainmatthilliard@gmail.com if it is after dark. The contact form on the site is fine, but a phone call is faster when you are trying to book a last minute inshore fishing charter in Tampa Bay.

I will ask three things real quick. How many people (max four). What time you can meet. And whether you can be flexible if the tide is wrong. I hate seeing people get sold a "same day charter" when the water is blown out or the tide is slack around Weedon Island and Fort De Soto. If it is not going to fish well, I will tell you straight. We can look at tomorrow or a half day instead of burning your time.

Same prices as a regular trip. Four hours is $500. Six is $600. Eight is $800. Tarpon runs are $850 when they are in. Two hundred dollar deposit holds the spot. If weather kills it, we move the date or refund that deposit. I do not play games with that.

Bring sunscreen and a cooler if you want drinks. I handle bait, rods, licenses, and cleaning if we keep fish. Most last-minute trips I run stay inshore. Redfish in the mangroves near Bay Pines. Trout on the grass off Johns Pass. Snook tight to structure around Pass-A-Grille when the water is right.

If you are coming from Tampa, Pinellas Park, Seminole, or Tierra Verde, give yourself extra time for the bridges. I launch local. I will tell you exactly where to meet once I know the plan.

I have watched too many last-minute tourists get herded onto packed boats that already had a full day booked. That is not how I do it. If I say yes, you get the boat. If I say no, it is because I would rather you catch fish another morning than waste a day.

Call first. We will figure it out.
