Can I Bring My Own Cooler on a Charter? St. Petersburg & Tampa Bay Inshore Fishing
Share
Hey everybody, Captain Matt Hilliard here with Daybreaker Inshore Charters out of St. Petersburg. Sixth generation fisherman on these waters. Folks ask me all the time if they can bring their own cooler on a charter. Short answer is yes. I actually want you to.
The homepage already says it. Just bring yourself, sunscreen, and a cooler if you want extra drinks or food. That is the deal. I run a 22-foot boat on purpose. Small and personal. Four anglers max. Space gets chewed up fast once rods, bait, and people are on board. A giant coffin cooler or two big hard-sides fighting for deck space does nobody any favors when we are working the flats off Fort De Soto or sliding along the mangroves at Weedon Island.
A soft cooler or a modest hard cooler works best. Pack drinks, snacks, sandwiches, whatever you like. Cans and plastic only. No glass. I have watched bottles shatter on a rolling deck more than once and I hate cleaning that up while we should be fishing. Beer is fine in moderation. Hard liquor is not. This is a fishing trip, not a floating party. I will cut it off if someone gets sloppy. Safety first. Always.
I ice the catch on the boat. We bleed them quick and get them down in the box so the Tampa Bay heat does not ruin good trout or slot reds before we even get back to the dock. If you want fish cleaned, I will do it. If you want to take some whole, that same cooler you brought for drinks can help on the ride home. Just do not count on one small cooler doing both jobs if we have a good day.
Summer down here will cook anything left in the sun. Afternoon squalls roll in off the Gulf and the humidity sits heavy around Boca Ciega Bay and the Skyway. Bring more ice than you think you need. I have ice on the boat for the fish. You handle your drinks.
I get tired of the big operations that make packing feel like a checklist with ten rules. Talk to me when you book. Tell me what you are bringing. We will make it work. People come from Clearwater, Largo, Pinellas Park, and Tampa for this exact reason. Small boat. Straight answers. No runaround.
Ready to get on the water? Call or book direct. I will get you taken care of.
