Best Fishing Charter for Beginners in St. Petersburg
Share
Hey folks, Captain Matt Hilliard here with Daybreaker Inshore Charters out of St. Petersburg. Sixth generation on these waters. Grew up commercial fishing with my dad before I ever ran charters.
I get a lot of first-timers. People from Clearwater, Largo, Pinellas Park, even Tampa who have never held a rod. They worry they’ll look dumb or waste the day. I hate seeing that. Big boats rush folks through and leave beginners standing there confused. Not on my 22-footer.
We keep it simple. All bait, rods, reels, and tackle are on the boat. You show up with sunscreen and maybe a cooler. I show you how to cast, how to feel a bite, when to set the hook. We fish the grass flats off Fort De Soto, the mangroves at Weedon Island, and the moving water around the Skyway and Boca Ciega Bay. Trout, slot redfish, and mangrove snapper are usually the easiest for new anglers. Kids and first-timers do great on those.
I tailor every trip. Calm days when the afternoon storms haven’t built yet. Short runs so nobody’s bouncing around feeling green. USCG licensed and insured. I adjust the pace so you actually learn something instead of just watching me fish.
If you’ve never been out on Tampa Bay and want a real local captain who grew up on these tides, this is it. Give me a call or send the dates. I’ll get you taken care of.
